Round Rock Parks & Recreation Department

Celebrate Father’s Day out at the La Frontera Green in Round Rock on with a free concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 15 from WIDEAWAKE, recent winner of the Austin Music Foundation Incubator Program at SXSW, as they sing songs from their new cd “bigger than ourselves.”

In the last five years, Scott Leger, Nate Navarro, Steve Rude, Curtis Ryker and Eddie Willis of WIDEAWAKE have toured to seven countries and performed more than 450 concerts performing music from their cd, “Thread” and their new cd, “bigger than ourselves.”

WIDEAWAKE defines "bigger than ourselves" as the universal need for relationship and community; the value of not taking anyone or anything for granted; appreciating the simple and ordinary in others so much that it becomes extraordinary.

"Music has the unique ability as an art medium to engage both the mind, as well as the emotions, simultaneously," remarks lead guitarist Eddie Willis. "Music is the language of a generation and we want to make music that engages people at all levels."

Songs from their album have been picked up for use by major networks including NBC, WB and MTV. “So Simple” will be featured on the NBC movie of the week “Critical Mass,” and the single “bigger than ourselves” was featured on the 100th episode of “Dawson’s Creek.” Various other tracks are being featured in MTV’s “Real World” and “Road Rules.” In addition, the single “Hey John” from their first cd made a brief appearance in the motion picture “The Ring.”
